Chapter 14
Nationals is almost an anticlimax after the emotional roller coaster that was the Grand Prix Final. But Danny texts with Noah and Noemi the whole ride up, and heâs able to muster up some excitement by the time they get to Zug. âCan I do the quad Lutz?â he asks Nico as they wait for a cab.
âYou donât need it,â Nico says. âI donât want you risking injury for points you donât need when your technical base score is ten points higher than anyone elseâs.â
âItâll be good practice for the Euros,â Danny counters. âAnd if I fall, my advantage is high enough that Iâll probably still medal.â
âYou could fall twice and still win,â Nico says. âThat doesnât mean risking your neck makes sense.â
âAny time I jump, I risk my neck,â Danny points out. âI donât want to slow my momentum down for Nationals only to have to pick it back up in January.â
They argue the whole way to the hotel, and to Dannyâs surprise, he wins. âIf you really think you can do it, then I suppose I wonât stand in your way,â Nico relents, patting Danny on the shoulder in the hotel elevator. âJust promise me youâll use some sense.â
âI promise,â Danny says, too surprised and relieved to try and argue that heâs always sensible.
He hasnât had any real time with Noah since before the Final, and as they laugh and chatter with Noemi in her room, itâs a real fight to keep himself from jumping the man. Noah feels similarly, to judge from the way his eyes keep flickering to Danny and the way his hand keeps finding its way to Dannyâs knee.
They donât get any time alone that night, but Danny drags Noah into a supply closet at the rink for a hurried makeout between their events. âGod, Iâve missed you,â Noah hisses, kissing Danny as fiercely as he can without leaving any visible sign.
âTomorrow,â Danny whispers, tipping his head back for Noah to trail his lips up his neck. âIâll come to your room tomorrow, after everythingâs done.â
âI want to be inside you,â Noah breathes, and every nerve in Dannyâs body lights up in excitement. They havenât done that yet; Noah expressed some hesitation about topping when the idea was first broached over the summer, and Danny hasnât wanted to push. âPlease, Danny, can I fuck you tomorrow night?â Noah goes on, one hand on Dannyâs lower back and the other cupping his ass.
âFuck, Noah,â Danny says reverently, catching his mouth to bite gently at his lower lip. âOf course you can. If youâre sure.â
âIâm sure,â Noah says. He kisses Danny again, all lips and tongue, and then presses their foreheads together. âGod, youâre going to be the death of me,â he murmurs, his mouth curved up in a sweet little smile that makes Dannyâs heart beat even faster.
âOnly the little death,â Danny says, and Noah laughs, too loud for their rendezvous.
They take that as their cue to stop, sneaking out of the closet and back to their respective coaches.
